Spring tension is the real hazard

Re-tensioning it afterwards is not guesswork either — too little and the fabric sags and flaps down the highway, too much and the arms fight you every time you retract.
Fabric alignment has to be exact
New fabric has to be cut to your exact roller length and fed squarely into both the roller groove and the rail on the coach. A quarter inch off at one end shows up as a diagonal wrinkle across the whole panel, water pooling on one side, and edges that chafe until they tear again. That is the most common reason a DIY fabric job gets re-done.
Power awnings are a measurement problem
When a 12-volt awning stalls, the parts cannon is expensive.
